The cane should be more yellow than pale some brown spots are not bad.
If you split the can the inside should be smooths opposite of rough and the nerves should be very close together.
The colour on the inside should be also yellow and not greenish or pale.
A good piece of cane should make a nice tingling sound if you drop it on your workbench where a bad piece of cane produces a more dull sound.
