I'm unfamiliar with the practice of allowing these sorts of works in orchestra auditions. Orchestra auditions that I've been to have always sent a list of orchestral excerpts, some of which you would be asked to play. You work them all up, and play as asked--sorry, but I've never had the opportunity to "choose" a piece to play for an audition. That's new to me.
Perhaps find out what composer/style the conductor likes, and go from there. You can often find out which way she/he leans by looking at pieces that the orchestra has recently done. Romantic? French? Modern?
If the conductor is an oboist, your sound may have more impact on the audition than what work you play.
I've often heard the Britten, and never liked it--not because it wasn't played well, but because I don't care for the Britten. Your audition panel may just love Britten, though.
Good luck with it, and hope you do well.
