If you cannot slur that octave jump, but you can play the higher octave when starting there, then this is even more indication that the octave key is clogged.

Baroque and classical period instruments did not have the octave key, the higher octave was reached by "overblowing" the reed. Todays much smaller reeds make this more difficult, but it can still happen - on some reeds, I can do this at will.... but these are usually not concert-grade reeds.

So have it checked by a repairman or, if you don't have to worry about legal issues around the instrument, it should be easy enough to remove the 2nd octave key, clean the hole with a thin pin and put the key back on (put the screws in a pill bottle not to loose them!!!!).
