Wow, Cooper! Just WOW!
Nick Daniels and Gordon Hunt, together, on the same piece? For me, it just could not get any better than that. They (along with John Mack) are my all-time favorite oboists! Man, I knew should have made the trip!
It is interesting to hear of your experience in the master class. It reminds me of what's going on in the WW5 that I formed in Greensboro (Cambiata Winds). Our clarinetist is just light years beyond the rest of us, as far as his musicality is concerned, and he is driving us totally crazy with his insistence on that sort of detail.
He will stop and ask for a re-do, or corrections, when all the rest of us think we were doing pretty darned well. And then we do it his way, and darned if he isn't right! Sometimes it totally gets under my skin, but I have to say, it is making us a much better group -- one we will be proud to record and share with y'all some day soon, God willing.
