Honestly...
Oboe has never hurt my other instruments and vice versa. I started out as a violinist learned all the strings, and switched to oboe in High School as my first wind instrument. Since then learned all of the woodwinds also. My oboe playing has never suffered, and my teacher actually encouraged me to play my other instruments. I actually think it helped in the orchestral setting, knowing what the other instruments' tendencies are on certain notes, and blending and such. I've been able to take different thoughts of teaching and apply them to each instrument too (I often use Robert Dick's Throat Tuning with my oboe students as well as I do in my playing on all of my instruments).

This orchestra shouldn't have had an issue with your daughter auditioning on more than one instrument either. It's a fact of life at her age, and if she's got enough talent to learn them all, they should be happy. Especially with saxophone! Why have to call in an extra player to play something like Pictures at an Exhibition or Lt. Kije, when you can just take one of your current players.

When she's looking into colleges, you might want to consider schools that offer doubling as a degree (Multiple Woodwind Performance at most schools that have it). Most don't let you do it as a Bachelors, but she would probably still be able to take lessons, and she won't be discouraged from playing the other instruments, and might be able to play them in various other ensembles.
