These are built-in acoustic matters which can be explained easier with diagrams. I've found it difficult to change tuning while playing these notes and simply rely on certain fingerings to tune and stabilize the notes. When playing the Dvorak EH solo, I have found the fingerings especially needed. In the Bizet d'Arleisene(sp?), the alternate fingerings are also needed.
On my instruments, the G and G# have tuning and stability problems while the Eb is in tune but too loud. No alternate fingerings are needed for the Eb, just don't play too strong. It is a matter of bore and tone hole design and I believe that little can be done about it without major instrument revision, which may not be a good idea.
On the clarinet, this same effect is seen in the second register G which is often in tune but way too strong, even on R13s.
It is also interesting that many EH players don't know about these effects, perhaps because they don't check all notes with a tuner, or because the groups they play in don't know the difference. In some concert bands, the EH player is largely covered up, unless there is a solo. Good Luck!
