Here is a link to one of the folks from this board testing a synthetic reed, and her comments about it. Do listen to her playing sample. (She was not trying to make it sound bad, BTW).

If you use the search function (up at the top of each thread in the small print) and look for "plastic reed" or "synthetic reed," you will get a lot of comments. I don't think anyone here has a positive attitude about them, though.
