Good diagnosis by Cooper.
Here is something to help with that problem.
Keep a non-pull-through cotton swab for the upper joint.
Normally, I use a silk pull-through as prevention but soon as water problems in octave keys, trill keys or otherwise happen, I switch to the cotton. While it is less absorbent than silk, fiber for fiber, its so much thicker it really pulls the water out fast.
Silk is good to use frequently, and when water still presents a problem, go to cotton fast. Pull it snug, wait 5 - 10 seconds and back it out. Unfortunately, you need remove the top joint first, so its not as fast in concert as desirable, but it works.
