I really like what is written here on this subject.
For me the important thing is how to get rid of the air. I am not aware of how and when I inhale but I try to exhale as often as possible, and when I concentrate on exhaling, I think I do the inhaling correct, with diaphragm breathing, which is the way a baby breath.
I do´nt think the breathing problem is a problem just for us oboe players, but it might be more important for us. When I sing Bachs Christmas Oratorio, part 4 (in the choir), it starts with a really long note for me, and if I think of inhaling as much air as possible, it is impossible to sing it with one inhalation, but it is possible if I only think about exhaing air.
