I played around with Audacity today. Indeed the gVerb is reverberation, with all kinds of need settings! The echo really simulates the echo of pretty much any room or hall you can imagine. There is also a controller for LP simulating Decca and a bunch of other labels from different years... yep, the result does sound like the description!
