Sorry to have put you on the spot, Chris. There was actually a reason.
I get a lot of DVDs and television with BBC programming on it. I like "innocent" programming, so often children's movies and shows, but also light mysteries and such. I have found that the background music, orchestral or small ensemble, in those British shows have oboes with a special characteristic to them (unlike the original Star-Wars trilogy, though it be the London Phil.). Its not baroque, but there is a crispness and a freshness to it.
I was wondering if this is because they use British instruments, the reed scraping style, breathing technique, sound-recording setup or a combination of all the above....
As for the Dupin (I e-mailed them a lot last fall), you gave a link to a picture of the Mozart Model. It is a boxwood version of the Imperial played by Christoph Hartman. They had a special permission to cut and use trees from the "Chateaux de la Loire" (castles of the the Loire region) and so the number of instruments is limited. I don't know if they still have any. I suppose the sound is similar, but better production with the Imperial (grenadilla and/or synthetic).
=> Problem with Dupin is that there are no resellers in N.-America, so I can't get any on trial!
