I don't have an E.H. at my disposal. I have played one several times in the past. I find it very pleasant to play and hear, so I'm planning my finances to buy one in some years. Right now, I'm trying those reeds on the oboe period.

For d'amore reeds I use those funky staples (Guercio) that have a bit of cork on them. But this makes the overall reed much too short and the tuning becomes too difficult. (much too sharp in the 2nd 8va key notes and comparatively too flat on the bottom notes)

With E.H. reeds, I tie a lot of thread very carefully and infuse lots of cork grease to ensure air tightness. I know there are no leaks there because the lowest notes speak very easily.

I will try some makeshift bocal, probably to be made out of old long staples, to try to make those reeds longer. If that can help with the evenness of the scale, then.... you know, I sometimes like how the d'amore reeds play better than the actual oboe reeds... but much more experimentation is required before making any real claims or decisions.Theyoungoboist wrote:
