OK -- I'll bite! What do YOU do about these maladies -- any good way to clean them out yourself? And whyfore does the water love those particular spots so much?
I can sort of figure that the octave keys are sooo close to the base of the reed that they are first in line for whatever comes out of it, and are also the first spot where condensation from the breath could occur.
But why is the F res so water-prone? (and I agree with you, it is. At least, mine is.)
