You were already very good, but the sound just grew into a giant! The KM is really not comparable to RDG (or Chiarugi - seem to be the same). The KMs have more of a triangle at the bottom (very narrow bottom), belly up very distinctly after the tie and level off so they are more parallel for about half of the reed's total length. I use the 725 wide belly (closer to RDG -2), but the most popular is the 720. I have tried the 720 and love it too. It is closer to the RDG -1, but much easier to blow and make good reeds with. => my 1st experiences with KM seemed to be difficult, but after only a few, they greatly surpassed anything else: I think it was because the supplier of my samples might not have done a perfect job. My gouge is also thinner on the sides. I also gouge my cane thinner now (0.58 instead of 0.63mm) and that seems to help keep the scrape short and darken the sound. I can get a really warm milky sound on the KM 720 or a bright crystal one if I like (scrape the sides less). They are particularly well suited to European scrape. If you decide to buy the KM shaper, be warned: its ugly! They are hand made and so do not look as well polished. But believe me the end result is great.
