So long as the wax keeps the screw in the pillar until you can get it fixed, that shouldn't be a problem.
The threaded pillar may have turned slightly or the face may have been fraised back at a slight angle causing the screw to bow when it's tightened, but that can be sorted out by turning the pillar slightly or filing a small amount of one side of the face to allow the screw to be perpendicular when it's tightened fully.
If the rod is bent, it can be straightened out by mounting in a drill chuck and using a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it (eg. a hammer handle or similar) to bend the screw along its entire length while it's rotating which straightens it out, then checking in the key barrel to see if the barrel is also straight.
If the key barrel is bent, the screw is left in the barrel and the barrel is then tapped with the hammer handle where the bend is which will straighten it out. You can find the bend by running the screw in the barrel and when you feel resistance, press the barrel with your index and middle fingers on one side and your thumb on the opposite side. You'll know when you've pushed the bend back as the screw will drop out. Locate the pressure point with your thumb and this is where you'l tap the key barrel with the hammer handle (use the handle as it won't damage the key).
Then when you've tested the screw and key and find no resistance, refit it and tighten it up checking the key will move freely with the spring disengaged. If it starts to bind up when the screw is tightened, then the alignment of the pillar (or hole drilled into it) is most likely to blame - but it can still be fixed either by lining the pillar up better or filing a small amount off the side of the face of the pillar which is putting pressure onto the screw when it's tightened up.
