There was a story i heard some time ago about a certain very famous oboe teacher in the UK, who would immediately tell a student whether they had a talent or not, and subsequently told them to quit immediately as so not to ruin their future. When someone confronted this teacher and asked why, she said, i paraphrase here, that if they were anyhow affected by her and decides to quit, they wouldn't be suitable for the job anyways. In a way, there is nothing wrong with this, as i often see many students blinded from the realities of the music scene, at least here in Asia.
