I don't think it's a student's place to determine if a teacher is good or not based on the teacher's style. What matters are the results. If a teacher is abrasive, then that's the student's cue to improve whatever they're doing until the teacher stops being abrasive.
I would love a teacher like this because I would find it challenging. I'd want to find out what calms him down and then learn how to do that--chances are it has something to do with practicing and becoming the best musician I can be. I guess it's not for everyone but I don't know that there's anything wrong with such a teacher. If they get results, then bravo to them.
