Thanks for your comments, everyone. Rachel, I am doing just about what you have suggested -- lots of different ways to skin this cat. It's just learning and remembering what I am doing. I AM making lots of fingering notes!

The whole enterprise just annoys me, I guess, because there is really only one place in the entire piece where the oboe is audible, and that is way towards the end, when you get a little duet with the clarinet. The rest of the time, it doesn't totally matter if, or what, the oboist is playing. Which means this piece is just a lot of work for very little effect. I hate stuff like that.
