I found that good reeds which were set aside and played later in a different season of the year were not good at that time. I did always retain a stash of about a dozen blanks and never noticed a problem finishing them in a season other than the one in which they were tied. I tended to do a light scrape where the finished scrape would be, and sometimes also cut the tip. Those with a cut tip tended to be more open, I think, though after much handling and some playing in I do not think there was a difference.
