Hi,
I would like to share an observation about getting better pitch stability in the upper register. This tip came from my teacher.
In the extreme corners of the blend - you make a very defined separation between the tip and the heart. This is done by scraping the tip/blend at the corners at an angle - with the knife at 45 degrees.
Another observation about whistles in a reed. I find that if you scrap the heart at the corners right above the defined blend - the whistles go away.
Have anyone else had similar experiences / observations?

This sounds like what Joseph Shalita teaches in his reedmaking book. It works!

Nice! This trick just eliminated a lot of wildness in my current reed. This was just the pointer I needed today. Forgot about this approach....
Thanks!

the area between the tip and the heart is SO important, and it takes SO little to make a difference. So scrape a little, play a little... I usually 'treat' this area when my reeds 'whistle' (buzz, chirp, etc.) and it USUALLY helps.
The other area I work is the opposite diagonal corner, i.e. below the heart, scraping at a 45 degree angle.
But I'm no expert and am still finding my way to the Perfect Reed.
