 the area between the tip and the heart is SO important, and it takes SO little to make a difference.   So scrape a little, play a little... I usually 'treat' this area when my reeds 'whistle' (buzz, chirp, etc.) and it USUALLY helps.
 
 The other area I work is the opposite diagonal corner, i.e. below the heart, scraping at a 45 degree angle.
 
 But I'm no expert and am still finding my way to the Perfect Reed.
