The possibility of a leak in the top joint does seem the likely cause of the problem. In addition to the good ideas by oboeblank and jhoyla, check the trillers. The linkage between the middle joint and the trill key might have bent enough to cause the trill pad to open slightly when the joints are put together. This would cause an air leak which would not show up when the top joint is examined for suction separately.
