Never thought of doing that.
Just remember to always dip in filtered or boiled water so that no residue infiltrate the reed in any way.
And about the germ problem. Basically not a big one. Just dip it in water and lightly rub lightly to clean off anything. As for super hygenic people, the suggested solution will work quite nicely, but i remember some discussion in the old days saying that there will be side effects if dipped in the wrong cleaning agant for the reed. So be careful not to waste a good reed. =)
