Am I supposed to disinfect new reeds before I play them?

It occurred to me that reedmakers are putting the reeds in their mouth to hear them crow, right? So there must be germs on them? So am I supposed to sanitize my new reeds before I play them the first time, and it's one of those things that's so obvious that none of the oboe websites thinks they need to mention it? Or do reedmakers sanitize them before they ship them?
