Hello Joeboe... and All:
IMHO, those on a tight budget may want to look at other makers' used instruments rather than just Loree. In my experience, the "Loree" name always adds monetary value, regardless of the quality of a particular instrument. This is great if you're selling, but not if you're buying!
Loree makes some very fine instruments, but I think it is far better to play a very fine instrument of any brand name than on a mediocre Loree (and there many of these around, including some fakes from a few decades back!!). Even though I now play two exceptionally good Lorees (Ob & EH), I have had an absolutely wonderful Gordet (Kreul) oboe for almost forty years, and still interchange it for my Loree Royal from time to time.
The trick is to play on as many different instruments (of all brands) as possible, find a particular instrument that plays best for you, and then have a very accomplished player evaluate the instrument for you. A professional player should be able to avoid "brand bias" and let you know the true attributes of a particular instrument.
Best of luck in your search!! Cheers,
Nigel
