I've heard some not so favorable things about Forrests as far as repairs go; however I order stuff off their web site often (when I can't find it cheaper elsewhere! They don't seem to have a lot of bargains) and they are good about returns; gave me a new knife when the one I wanted to return was being closed out.
I use Daniel Deitch in S.F. and he's a great guy: patient and takes a lot of time with me despite the fact that I'm a pretty low on the customer totem pole and his overhaul of my other oboe was spectacular. It looked and sounded brand new. More money than I anticipated but it was no more than his estimate and I think it's standard for the comprehensive service
(And I hate to drive to the East Bay from here!)
I am in a honeymoon period returning to my oboe and have bought a lot of books (not the new barrett though) and even started trying to make reeds.
Quite humbling, that.
I will need to check out the reed making thread once I get a bit further along.
