Specifically for Ob. II, some additions:
You are 2nd Oboe, not substitute 1st oboe. Think "I play a different instrument". You take your tuning from 1st Ob., cues, you always try and make 1st Ob. sound good, never play louder than 1st oboe. I even had a teacher telling me to copy the first oboe player's bad phrasing, so that we sounded together.
NEVER play the solo passages while warming up, and don't play any themes from the other instruments either - really bad manners.
