For me it is more about how the oboist uses his/her sound that interest me.
The 3 virtuoso oboists above all share one thing in common, extremely refined phrasing, tone that has warmth and a strong core in the sound.
One should also listen to players like Han de Vries, Louis Pellerin, Thomas Indermuhle, Hans Meier, etc....no one plays like them anymore...unfortunately....
There is this recording from circa. 1952 of an oboist which i do not know of, performing Mozart's 25th symphony with Bruno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. It is one of the most beautiful and refined playing i have ever heard, very curious who this player is if anyone can provide any insight?
