I came across an advertisement for a book by David McGill called 'Sound in Motion', and in it it says he methodically explains the frequently misunderstood "Tabuteau number system" and its relationship to note grouping-the lifeblood of music. Now, I have no idea what that all means, so was hoping someone out there could throw a little light on the subject.
Equally, there's a book entitled 'Marcel Tabuteau' by Laila Storch, which has, I presume, a picture of him on the front cover. I've never seen a picture of him before! There's a quote on the front which says, "How do you expect to play the oboe if you can't peel a mushroom?" Somehow, that seems quite an apt observation for an aspiring oboist! Are these books recommended buys? Any insights will be gratefully received. Thanks!
James
