 Re: Larilee Oboe

Several years ago I purchased a Larilee on an auction site. One screw was rusted in place and I contacted the factory (in Indiana) The boss was very interested in the instrument when I described the mother of pearl inset in the bell. He told me that his father had made it and always added the pearl inset---I shipped it out to him to fix the rusted screw and generally adjust. He did a great job, and it played very well. This model wasdefinitely an intermediate quality and in my opinion better than the middle range Selmers, Amstrong, and Lintons out there. They make cheaper models also which I do not know about---but the old one his father made was a nice instrument for its price and intermediate level. Lois Barton
