For some tone improvement I would suggest (though it's likely I will be shot down in flames for saying it)
Try to get your student to form an "OOO" shaped mouth, no smiling, form the "O" the gently roll the lips in and gently cushion the reed on the lower lip keeping the upper lip contact nice and light. make sure the reed isn't either too far in or out of the mouth and encourage a steady airstream.
I appreciate that we in Europe form a slightly different embochure as we tend not to play on the longer scrape as you seem to favour in the USA...but the "OOO" shaped mouth gives a nice full sound and encourages flexibilty in the embochure without tension. Don't over technify the subject and just see what happens, keep an eye on the embochure to see that the smile does not creep in and that the student doesn't start to bite down on the reed. The moment their lip shows signs of giving up, take a break, do something else for a few minutes not involving the Oboe, maybe some breathing in and out just to give the lip a break...
This is just my suggestion, no doubt some one will jump on it..
