Hello
I have just bought a Yamaha, an 831 which is the Uk equivalent to the US 841 I think, not what I expected to buy though.
My tutor (a professional oboeist) came with me and she was really suprised how good it was.
We tried it in a blind competition against a marigaux and a buffet and it was the clear winner, with both her playing as well as mine. It sounded as good as her Marigaux, and hers is an exceptionally good specimen.
I think in the UK there may be a little snobbery about Yamaha's not being so good, so it had to be good in its own right and not down to pre-existing prejudices.
So far it is great, no problems.
