it's not difficult at all, it just sounds that way! using an easel is actually deceptive since it seems so self-evident that scoring the cane over the middle line should create two perfect halves, but it often doesn't for a variety of reasons (cane not standard length, bit of play on either end, not scoring exactly over the line, etc.). and you pay a crazy amount for a stupid little piece of carved wood!
