If the socket crack terminates in a pillar hole or tonehole, it may not spread any further down the joint and not through to the bore. But that's not to say it won't - but even if it does, it can always be fixed.

As the wood is thin at the socket (compared to the rest of the bore), it can't be pinned at this point as there's not enough depth i the joint wall to fit a pin without it going through to the inside of the socket.

But once fixed it will be held tight by the socket ring and provided it has terminated into a tonehole or pillar hole, it shouldn't spread and shouldn't be a cause for concern.
