Difference between intermediate and professional oboes?
Author: stevensfo

Has anyone ever tried both an intermediate oboe and compared it with the more expensive professional model by the same manufacturer?

I have the feeling, after reading countless websites, that the major difference is the presence/absence of some trill keys, third octave key, and possibly a fully auto system if required.

But what about the tone? Will the wood be the same, or "left to mature and handpicked...blabla.."

e.g. will the Rigoutat Expression be basically the same as the cheaper Rigoutat Riec, only with more keys?

Just wondered. ;-)

Steve
