I invested in a Blayman steel base stand when a community band member's help dog brushed against my instrument and almost knocked it over. You'd have to hit an instrument pretty hard to topple a Blayman. Actually you can sit there and hit it hard and it won't topple

I've witnessed adults rest their clarinets/flutes on the lip of their music stand... makes me shudder. Kids may actually use instruments as weapons and batons so I don't think it matters what you do when kids are around.
