Well.....I don't know about the hard rubber/plastic bit. I actually just happened upon an old Bettoney piece a few months back that was for sure rubber and it was not faded one bit.

But ....this piece I have, I haven't found the right reed/clarinet combo to really make it work. I think I'll have my friend Peter the refacer make sure its good, there's something about it I like but I'm still keen on my old, old, very faded Bettoney piece I've had for years......
