does your Fox 330 have left F? Maybe the picture i'm thinking of was an older model, no Left F on it, are newer instruments fitted with left F? and, how about F resonance vent?
How does forked F sound on your oboe compared with Basic / Left F?
<<Is there any sort of consensus on what fingering choices one should use (especially navigating the lowest reaches of the oboe) in various keys such as B and Db ... >>
You mean B Maj (5 sharps) -- ooh, there's that 'luverly' B / C to Right C# maneuver, hey, play it in B minor first, then get more complicated by adding Left D# etc modulating to Major -- sliding is easier for the minor, but in the Major you'll need to learn how to do rights and lefts
Your oboe should let you play (right) C# / Db without lifting (left) Eb / D# key, if it doesn't, get it adjusted
i think it's technically better, in the long run, to learn alternating rights and lefts rather than sliding when doing *scales, arpeggios & exercises* of 4 flats & sharps plus, but in *music* do what works best for finger sequencing -- slide, rights & lefts, fork fingerings, alternate keys, whatever
get it right, get it even, get it clean, get it smooth, get it faster ... good luck!
