Hi,
After 30 or so years of not playing oboe (but playing lots of flute and clarinet in the interim), I hope to start playing oboe again. When I was in school, I was using an intermediate Larilee oboe that had fewer alternate keys than the Fox 330 that I will be using (no left F, left Eb, no right alternate C, and probably others.)
I've read here (and elsewhere) that one should try to use the left F instead of the fork F whenever possible because it sounds more uniform. And so I'm curious:
Is there any sort of consensus on what fingering choices one should use (especially navigating the lowest reaches of the oboe) in various keys such as B and Db, or is it more a matter of just doing whatever works? Are there any books of scales and patterns and so forth that discuss the "best" fingering choices?
Thanks,
Mike
