I often visit a website: http://www.oboistgallery.8m.net
It is a wondeful website, with short clips of different oboe players (dead and alive!) from all around the world. I was intrigued by the joyful Dittersdorf Concerto in G major which was submitted on the site. My father bought me the concerto in Chappell Music in London, and I quickly glanced at it- seeing the interval 'D'--G', I assumed that it was the right concerto. There were not any other G major concertos in the rack either, so I bought it and took it home. The next day, excited about playing it, I tootled away at the first movement. To my surprise, it was nothing of the sort, so I made the assumption that it would be the 3rd, and last movement, as it is obviously a fast movement of the concerto. When I played the last movement, it did not resemble what I had heard Holliger play at all, so I was rather confused. I even listened to it again, and played it back, looking at the music at the same time. It certainly was not the right concerto. I have checked on June Emerson and other wind music suppliers whether there was another G major concerto- and still no luck. I have the tune running through my head right now---perhaps it is for another instrument.
