To avoid a shrill reed that is too easy - one needs to know how to properly balance the entire reed.

They are many ways to ways make a reed more responsive and flexible.

The problem with an easy reed and the "buzz" is when one solves the response/hardness problem by only scraping the tip and/or not keeping good proportions in the tip/blend/back of the reed.

What you want is a "ring" in the sound not a "buzz".
