I don't know if there is any justification in choosing instruments based only on their physical comfort. I mean, yes, it should feel ok around the hands, and the fingers shouldn't have to contort too much to reach the keys, but as far as weight on the thumb -which is what I am assuming is causing the problem - The body will adapt, and the thumb will gain strength in order to hold the oboe. If it is too painful, I would go with a neckstrap. There is no shame in using one if it just too painful on the wrist. I would sacrifice visual aesthetic (wearing a strap) for an oboe that I really like, regardless of weight
