I have often wondered, whether the change of diameter, from staple to oboe have any impact on the performance of the reed.
Any wind instrument involves fluid dynamics interacting with the instrument, the placement of tone holes, bore diameter.
In other areas, creating a successfull object involving fluid dynamics, like a plane or a car, you will minimize turbulence by making sure there are no sudden changes in the airflow. Meaning, nothing should stick out, preventing the free flow of air.
Then why do we live with the following situation on the oboe:
Has anyone any experience with this? Doesn't it matter at all?
If you look at staples from fx. Klopfer, they seem to be much closer to bore diameter than fx. Glotin or Lorée staples. I am about to investigate this, so any oppinions would be appreciated.
