Don't know if any of you have had the dubious pleasure of having to play this piece with a wind symphony, but if anyone has played it, perhaps you can help me out.
Our group is taking it at a true Presto. The clarinetist can play it superhumanly fast.
I simply don't understand how an oboist can play it as fast as that, especially given the fact that we are struggling with half-hole, Db, left Eb, and moving up and down over the octave break the entire time.
I especially have trouble with the opening phrase in the oboe part, which is marked as slurred. Once the tonguing starts, I get most of the notes, even at tempo, and at a tick or two below tempo, I am relatively comfortable. But I would surely like it to be cleaner and more reliable.
Is there some trick to this?
