Jess-

Good luck with your regional audition, and don't worry too much about your Eb- just takes a little work.

As for rhythm, there are a number of ways to fix or at least improve your problem. What exactly do you mean by "rhythm"..counting, sight reading, steadiness? If it's counting, break things up into segments. I know it sounds silly but slow things right down and split it into individual beats. one-e-and-uh or however you want to break it up. Then slowly speed things up and it should help. For things like triplets or other odd numbers to the beat try phrases with the same number of beats in them. Say them in your head as you go. Triplets- "trip'ul'let works nicely. Or berries... blue'ber'ry. :)

If your problem is with sight reading different rhythms, try and read everything you can get your hands on. You don't even need your horn. Tap it on the table, clap it, blink your eyes, it doesn't matter. The more pieces of "foreign" material you read the better your reading will become. It does wonders for fingering too. :)

If steadiness is the problem, go for the tried and true metronome. Granted, it's not a very pleasant way to even out passages, but it really does work. I highly recommend a metronome without legs, that way if you hurl it across the room its less liable to bust. Lol! Just kidding. :) Start with slow speeds and work your way up in small intervals. About 5 -10 clicks at a time. Depending on the piece you can play runs etc. staccato or detached and then slur them.

Good luck- and hope you sort your rhythm problems out. Pick and choose from the above mentioned, I apologize if you already knew all this.
