I haven't seen the trumpet book. I can't tell you for sure if the second parts are the same or different from one book to another, in either key. I can tell you that the second parts in the clarinet / tenor books are more countermelody than harmony; they're not just a third / fourth / or fifth from the melody, but are lines in their own right.
The problem for me is that these countermelodies don't add "pulse" to the rhythm (at least not with the person I'm playing with), but rather create a "fugue"-like feel. In other words, they're sort of "concertized". It's just not what I'm looking for. Maybe good for one verse, but then you've got to get away from it and do something else.
