Well, the 2nd 8ve pad IS higher than on the other oboe, so I guess it could be this. Strange thing is that last night, the notes sounded fine - perfectly in tune. Perhaps there's water collecting in the hole and it just needs a good clean.
I never heard about the trick with the Eb key before. There was a very slight improvement in tone. Thanks.
