Yes, the bass was in cocobolo. It was very, very smooth and even in tone color. It was rich in timbre, but not the type of richness which an english horn has, which can be more penetrating. I used a reed loaned me by David Weber, who was a nearby exhibitor, and that reed may have been part of my favorable impression of the instrument.
