I fully agree with Chris. The writer specifically asked for oboes under $2000. I have had five students for whom a larger budget was not possible, who bought Bulgheroni's cheapest model. This is a grenadilla oboe with most keywork of professional oboes, lacking a split ring D. It has a lovely tone and is very easy blowing. Better yet, only one of the five developed a minor crack fixable under warranty. Woodwind/Brasswind sells them at under $1800--be sure to request they fully test and adjust it before shipping. Yes, there are better oboes at considerably higher prices, but this is a very satisfactory instrument for players who are not oboe majors and/or playing in professional orchestras. I would also consider Yamaha and Buffet in their lower price categories. For new oboists ease of playing and a beautiful tone are very rewarding, far beyond the extra trill key or two. Used oboes of the more expensive brands are occaisionally available but in this price range often show extensive wear and require costly adjustment . Lois Barton
