Again, guys, I don't think that the different models of professional instruments are dramatically different. If one were to make an analogy, it would be like a box of crayons. Each crayon is different in color, but almost homologous in structure. It is true that some instruments are brighter, and some are heavier and darker, but I don't think that it is universal; it all depends on each person's physical make-up. Some people can put huge amounts of air through an instrument, and need an oboe with a bore that can readily accept it; some people put smaller, but intense streams of air through, and therefore need a lighter, but flexible bore.
Ideally, if everyone was the same, we could all play the same oboe, with the same reed, and sound the same. However, nobody is the same! All this talk about "this oboe over that" is basically pointless. We have to match the oboe we want to play with how our own body resonates, and how we play, and how we make our reeds. Rigoutat, Marigaux, Covey, Buffet, Howarth, etc, they are all great oboes, and they all do the job. What has to be done is to pick one that best aligns with ones needs.
